For some people, a pet is an important part of their family. Such individuals may want to honor the relationship they have with the animal even after it has died. A pet mortuary offers a selection of services that can help in the proper preservation and disposal of the animal. There are various factors to be on the lookout for when picking a service provider.

Inquire whether the company offers pick-up services. Most mortuaries work in liaison with animal hospitals to pick up dead animals. If the animal dies in hospital, ask the hospital if they are affiliated with any service provider, who will pick up the remains. If the animal passes on in your house, call the company directly and ask them to pick up the animal.

Know how the animal will be transported to the facility. This includes the type of vehicle used and what it will be wrapped in during transportation. The animal can be wrapped in a soft blanket or piece of cloth.

Choose the internment method that you are most comfortable with. The animal can either be buried or cremated individually or in mass grave. If you want the ashes of the animal returned to you, opt for individual cremation. If you do not want the ashes back, then mass cremation will be suitable.

If you want to memorialize the animal, you can have souvenirs made from its body parts. This includes its paws, bones or fur. You can also have photos of it taken and used to make jewelry.
